In moments of profound despair, when the weight of the world seems unbearable, I find solace in the story of Elijah. This remarkable prophet, despite carrying God's message and witnessing His power firsthand, found himself drained, defeatist, alone under a broom tree, longing for the end. It's a humbling reminder that even the strongest among us can face moments of profound vulnerability.
Like Elijah, there came a point in my life where darkness seemed to engulf all light. A period so filled with brokenness and depression, it felt like the very essence of my spirit was fragmented. I wanted to relinquish every fight, every breath; I was ready to say, "It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life” (1 Kings 19:4).
But in the depth of that despair, much like Elijah, I wasn't forsaken. God didn't appear in the howling wind, the shattering earthquake, or the consuming fire, but in the gentle whisper, in the silent moments where His presence filled the voids of my heart, reminding me I wasn't alone.
He nourished me back to life, sending ravens in the form of friends and family, scriptures that spoke to the depth of my soul, and moments of unwarranted kindness that acted like the brook Cherith, providing sustenance in my drought.
It was in my brokenness that I truly understood, God doesn't give up on us. He never does. Even when we're ready to give up on ourselves, He's there, holding us up, whispering our worth, and guiding us back to His light. My journey from that point of despair has been a testament to His endless grace and mercy.
To anyone feeling lost, broken, or alone, remember Elijah under his broom tree and know that you have a God who sees you, hears you, and cherishes you. He is waiting to bring you through your storm, to speak into your silence, and to remind you that He will never, ever give up on you.
Let us hold steadfast to our faith, for in the end, like Elijah, we will find our strength in Him, and we will mount up with wings like eagles, run and not be weary, walk and not faint. We are never alone, for He is always near.
I hope this post inspires and brings comfort to those who read it, reminding them of the never-ending love and support that God provides, even in our lowest moments.
